I'm reading The Bloggess's book, Let's Pretend This Never Happened. The whole thing is laugh so hard you snort and almost whiz a little funny. If you aren't easily offended, pick it up it's seriously worth it.
I just came to a part where she is being diagnosed (FINALLY) with an anxiety disorder. If you have one you know how mind numbingly difficult it is to explain to someone who doesn't. I've never heard a version I thought was more spot on that this one.
Here is Jenny's definition:

Here is Jenny's definition:
"A Painfully devastating and incurable medical disability that torments both the victim and those around her."
This is how her therapist defined it:
"A minor disorder easily treated with medication."
Jenny retorts:
" I suspect, however, that if she were ever forced to have a conversation with me at a dinner party she would agree that my definition is far more accurate than hers."
I would say that anyone who has ever suffered with a mental illness, or had to live with someone who has, would choose hers! I thought this was brilliant. In fact, I think the way she handles herself in all facets of life is pretty brilliant. Her tell-it-like-it-is approach to mental illness is refreshing. I applaud her matter of fact way of talking about it and making fun of it at the same time. There is gravity to her levity. Letting people know that they are not alone in this fight and that a sense of humor can save your soul.
Um, can I borrow this one when you're done with it?
